About Nurbly

Nurbly is version control and collaboration for mechanical CAD, built on real
Git. It gives hardware and mechanical teams the workflow software teams have
used for years, full history, branching, review, and change comparison,
adapted for the binary design files that Git alone handles poorly.

Mainstream Git hosting treats a CAD file as an opaque blob: no preview, no
meaningful diff, no engineering data. Nurbly adds the layer that understands
the geometry.

Workflow

Push design files from the bundled nrb command-line tool or by drag-and-drop
in the browser. Large binaries are stored through a built-in Git type LFS server.
Nurbly renders the model in an in-browser 3D viewer, extracts engineering data,
and lets reviewers open a pull request, inspect the change, and merge, all
without leaving the browser.

Key capabilities

  • In-browser 3D viewer with assembly tree, hide/isolate, and live section
cuts. No CAD license needed to review a part.
  • Geometry-aware diff that classifies every face between two revisions as
    added, removed, or unchanged.
  • Automatic engineering data on upload: mass properties, bill of
materials, assembly structure, and interference (clash) detection.
  • Collaboration layer: pull requests with reviews and branch protection,
forks, issues, releases, and organizations with role-based access.
  • File locking for binary CAD through a check-out / check-in model, so two
engineers can't silently overwrite the same part.
  • CAD-native plugins: a FreeCAD workbench that runs the full check-out /
check-in loop without touching Git, with a KiCad plugin in progress for
    electronics design.

Status

Nurbly is in active development and currently in alpha. It is free during the
alpha program while early users help shape it.
